Paris, may day
When two of the most influential humans on the planet meet, timing usually matters
Yesterday, Xi Jinping and Emmanuel Macron met with Ursula von der Layen, showing Eurafrica (æ, in short) still exists.
While we are often stuck in thinking about the world in dichotomies (East-West), I feel that if one wants to understand the present, the questions you should ask are different. We need to gain perspective beyond binary worldviews. This political encounter recognised the role of Europe in the next cycle of dynamic equilibria. When some say mediation, other will hear remediation.
A standpoint that is central (and trending upwards in centrality) in the global landscape is represented by the following scenario definition:
What are all the risks a well-off Nigerian family should hedge against?
How long are our increasingly volatile economies flirting with high-inflation?
This is a question one would attempt to argue analytically. By inflation I roughly mean RPI, the furthering of debt levels and compounding of duration and/or defaults rates.
A practical example. How would you feel if I told you that today someone estimated my life at 82'322 €. Too little, too soon? Let's assume it's not based on my income, net-worth, ransom qualities or any other personally identifiable information.
How would anyone argue around such a valuation in front of a Court of Law? Sound first-basis questions to ask include:
- What's the time horizon, what is a sub-unit. Does inflation really matter, or may other momenta prevale? Hedge with 0DTE options and an appropriate covariance function.
- What’s the geography. In other words: does the number depends on where's the closest corruptible zombie in this videogame? Or is it a cultural issue? Does it depend on the neighbouring plot of lands customs & governing bodies, or possibly on the value I could make as a fully functioning member of a different alien society? Remember every Good Place recruits. As some may say, hedge against piracy with an averaged sim-swap attack matrix.
- Or is it an entirely different model? Value-dependant? Emoji-based? Kanji-able… that maybe holds some numerological value in that number? You never know if AI pirates are superstitious… 🥪
In a closed setting, you may ask under a veil of ignorance how different people would bid against it and how to fairly average their votes. It's the old Colosseum scenario, where the final say stays in the Emperor fingers; or a new crowd dancing to an Olympic… ehm Ozempic spirit ?
Confucianism praises order, what would an AI do?
